Age-Based Screening Recommendations
Ages 18–30: Building a Health Baseline
- Every year: Blood pressure measurement, BMI and weight assessment, basic CBC (especially for women to check for anemia), and a review of lifestyle habits (diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol).
- Every 2–3 years: Fasting blood sugar, lipid profile (cholesterol), thyroid function if there are symptoms or family history.
- For women: Clinical breast exam starting at age 20, Pap smear every 3 years starting at age 21 (or when sexually active).
- Vaccinations: Ensure hepatitis B series is complete. Consider HPV vaccine (if not already received). Annual flu vaccine.
Ages 30–45: Early Detection Phase
- Every year: Full fasting blood panel — CBC, FBS/HbA1c, lipid profile, kidney function, liver function, urine analysis, blood pressure, BMI.
- Every 1–2 years: Thyroid panel, vitamin D, vitamin B12, uric acid.
- For women: Annual clinical breast exam, Pap smear every 3 years, thyroid panel (women are 5–8 times more likely to develop thyroid disorders).
- For men: Testicular exam, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) discussion if family history of prostate cancer.
- Eye exam: Every 2 years to screen for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and refractive errors.
- Dental check-up: Every 6 months (available at Doctors Space dental department).

- Every year: Complete blood panel as listed above, PLUS ECG (electrocardiogram) to screen for heart disease, chest X-ray if indicated, and bone density discussion.
- Colon cancer screening: Recommended starting at age 45 — discuss with Dr. Afzal about stool-based tests or colonoscopy referral.
- For women: Annual mammogram starting at age 40–45, continued Pap smears, bone density scan (DEXA) discussion at menopause.
- For men: PSA blood test for prostate screening starting at age 50 (earlier if family history), abdominal ultrasound if urinary symptoms.
- Cardiovascular risk assessment: Detailed evaluation including lipid profile, blood pressure, HbA1c, and Framingham risk score calculation.
Ages 60+: Vigilant Monitoring
- Every year: All the tests listed above PLUS abdominal ultrasound (to screen for aortic aneurysm and organ abnormalities), eye exam with pressure check (glaucoma), hearing assessment, and cognitive screening.
- Pneumococcal vaccine: Recommended for all adults over 65 — protects against pneumococcal pneumonia.

“I went to Doctors Space for a routine check-up at my wife's insistence — I felt completely fine. My fasting blood sugar came back at 180 mg/dL and my cholesterol was dangerously high. Dr. Afzal caught both issues early, started me on treatment, and six months later my numbers are all normal. That check-up may have saved me from a heart attack. I now go every year without fail.”— Khalid J., 47, Patient at Doctors Space Gujranwala
